Yesterday,
She came to me again.
Sent me her second assignment and asked me help her "mark" her essay and to see if she did her essay incorrectly.
All right,
I snapped, literally.
Please tell me how to "mark" an essay for a Uni assignment?
There is no right or wrong in an essay at such a level of subjective study.
It's a matter of how you convince the marker.
I am definitely not in that professionally skilled position to assess her essay..
I dont ace every essay during UOL days..
If I'd knew how, I would have been a lecturer now..
In any way..
I was feeling a lil pissed when she asked me yesterday.Yes partly because I felt obliged to help,
I could not find a better way to tell her without hurting her pride or making her feel uneasy.
She had flunked 2 subjects the previous semester and I can feel her paranoia.
And the last thing I should do is to demoralise her further.
The other reason I felt pissed,
Such dependency is definitely uncalled for.
She needs to get used to understanding the questions all by herself,
Cos she will be the one who is sitting for the exams ultimately..
Sighz..
*****
After repeated attempts to make it more tactful..
This is what I returned to her this morning..
And it sounds so much nicer on paper..

Friday, April 24
I’ve been lazy..
Yes? No?
Movie reviews have been missing..=p
This is the list of movies that we have caught for the past 5 months..
There were in fact, more..

*Disclaimer: Posters were taken from the official sites and collaged only for personal reference.
Reviews are made solely from a personal view.
No offence intended.*
Suddenly I don't know what came upon me..
Felt like writing them down..
This is going to be a long long review intensive entry.
Hehehe..
The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons
A stark similarity to the Forrest Gump apologue,
Settings back in ancient European post-war times, an era of history that I loved a lot.
Every single journey that the protagonist took has its subtle directional meaning.
Every time he finds himself lost, there bound to have guidance from the most unusual strangers..
The natural quotes and how the story line flows smoothly..
The audience gradually gets sucked into the roller coaster rides of the diary..
An intriguing short tale,
The producers managed to further spiced up the show by capturing exactly how a person would behave in each age group..
The body language, the limps movements, the confidence that each held.
Impeccable!
The makeup and the costumes..
Needless to say, what skillfully nimble efforts..
The English accent, the poise, the etiquette..
It takes A LOT of research work to do the nitty-gritty stuff of aging..
The wrinkles, the brows, the drooping eyes, the mouths, the sunken cheeks, the sagging skin..
They did it all flawlessly.
As we all know, the actors themselves are not that young anymore..
Just look at how makeup makes the man.
I’m really blown away.
It did not matter that they did not win the big award as I’ve long realized the presence of diplomacy in such huge awards..
Another local pompous one coming our way late Apr..
Erm ahem ahem.
Slumdog Millionaire
I liked how the simple story touched me.
Just that this show is far too much too controversial for me to love it.
Basked in extremely overrated attention, we thought it was not deep enough to win the big award.
I am aware of the utmost natural settings possible and how the camera angles manage to capture the simplest life vividly.
Life in the slumps was realistically portrayed..
The abuse of child labour was disturbingly being brought to light.
The story began in the most unusual crossroads possible..
An interesting way to start a movie and to keep the audience’s anticipation high..
The cliché Who Wants to be a Millionaire was finally climatic to watch..
Perhaps we caught the show after they won the big award..
Sorry to say, I supposed our sky high expectations were not met.
The show did not have the wow element that was present in previous Oscar’s winning films..
One such example was the Million Dollar Baby.
Catch that show and you will know what I mean.
On the overall, it was not a bad movie =)
Push
A very spontaneous movie choice that we chose over Watchmen..
There was simply not much adverts for this show that we were not sure if we should catch it.
The whole story line began in obscurity..
When it all started to seem like an impossible story to follow through, the writers finally let some light through..
The sci-fi thriller is all about super powers..
Yes again you may think.
But this show delivers itself in an overpowering manner that burrows deep into the deadly world of psychic espionage.
When you finally decide that this power is better than the other, think about it again.
It’s all about using the flaws and weaknesses of each innate to counter the other to keep himself alive.
What a stimulating plot..
And Dakota Fanning is such a darling!
With her steely cold eyes, she simply grabbed all the attention away from her co-stars.
The Shinjuku Incident
I was blown away by this show!
We entered the cinema without many expectations because we knew the show wasn’t the usual Jackie Chan’s style.
No fighting stunts, no cute humor like his previous feats, no cute Caucasians to play his antagonists.
It was a simple reality on the streets of Shinjuku in the older days,
Monopolized by the various gangs of mobs..
The harsh life that illegal immigrants lead with tumultuous toil,
Survival of the fittest.
Gore was forcefully presented.
A little Kill Bill style, but enough to disturb the audience.
There is this very prominent theme for the whole movie..
That drives man to be ambitious..
That gives man the reason to strive towards his goal
That ultimately turns man evil and discarding all conscience and principles.
That is:
POWER
Fast and Furious 4
Though a fourth sequel to date, I guessed no one would ever feel nauseated by it..
Because it involves a whole range of stunts, eye candy and definitely crazily modified fast cars that easily drove both men and women crazy.
This latest production calls forth a more mature storyline and undoubtedly, more sophisticated movie soundtracks.
The show started in climax and it persisted throughout the show even till the end.
This is one of the few shows that certainly lived up to high expectations.
Paul Walker grew both as an actor and in his role as well..
At first we thought he might be overshadowed by Vin Diesel, but he did his role pretty well..
For Vin Diesel,
Needless to say,
The role was custom-made for him.
Amicable but not predictable little twists..
Spells nothing but nice =)

There is this up and coming show which I'm dying to catch..
Been waiting for it since they announced the intention to film a movie a couple of years back after the launch of the Da Vinci Code movie..

See the "irony" on my blog's banner? That is the symmetry of ambigrams..
A design that I once created, because I was so inspired by the Dan Brown's novel =)
Coming soon..
Yay!
*****

If you asked me..
I love the East.
Just that it was simply too overcrowded..
Three malls for a crowd that you usually see in town on weekends..
The flow of people was too much for some comfortable shopping.
And the new mall had too much angulated corners that it was not exactly a nice place for aimless walking.
Preferred the old mall..
At least for me.

Wednesday, April 8
One of the working Fridays when we lived like royalties..
Jurong Point for lunch as usual..
This time round I remembered to bring my cammie along..
OldTown White Coffee
One fine day Suki and I were talking about coffee..
Then she informed me that NTUC finally decides to shelf this OldTown instant white coffee..
I am not a coffee addict, but the name rung pretty well in my head.
Then dear and I found its F&B outlet at the new JP extension.
Given that there are already 121 outlets to date, mostly in Malaysia, particularly 4 outlets in Singapore..
The F&B concept is not that new as we thought it to be, but it was a nice change for us from the usual Ya Kun or Toastbox.
Dear had very much become ermm a chicken man..
No one can fight the frequency of him eating Toastbox's curry chicken..=p
This was the second time we patronized the outlet.
He ordered their special nasi lemak and 2 single toasts with 2 eggs for me =)
It was also the first time I tried the OldTown white coffee freshly brewed at the store
And damn, it was good!
We also ordered the Xi Mut milk tea and it was a scently taste that was different from Ya Kun and Toastbox.
The toast and the eggs
I'm a bread-over-rice person.
Ya Kun toast was the first I ever tried.
I thought even Toastbox could not match its toast..
Surprisingly,
I thought OldTown was really on par with that of Ya Kun =)
Mildly chocolate flavoured bread, toasted nicely..
Slapped on with light kaya and reasonable dosage of butter.
One will not get sick of the toast like you usually would with Ya Kun.
The eggs came in a small bowl, with thick dark sauce (not salty) served beside the eggs.
Light sauce is provided on every table for those who like a little more salty pinch.
I enjoyed my lunch very well.
The Nasi Lemak Speical
The food popped out exactly from the menu.
Nothing less.
Dear took the first bite and yes the exclamation came.
The chilli was damn appetizing.
And the rice was very tender =)
The whole serving was generous to a fault.

On another occasion, we went there and I tried their Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun..
Oh my, that was pretty soothing on the stomach as well..
Not to mention the soup was fantastic.
The downside of OldTown was the heavy burden on the pockets.
Quite pricey for the drinks.
Plus they had service charges and the prices on the menu exclude GST charges.
And the staff there seriously have to find ways to improve on ventilation.
But I guessed that the ability to command such a high price lies with the confidence they had with their food.
The variety is there, the unique taste is evident, and the locality is definitely close.Be prepared to see more of them around Singapore soon =D
And you have to check out their site..
So nicely done up..Scroll the pages with the coffee bean..
Anyone up to buy their licence? =p
OldTown White Coffee
*****
That very same evening..
Chilled out at Starbucks Woodlands Civic Centre..
Our favourite soy green tea latte and the usual blueberry muffin and uglier chicken puff =p
An additional perk shalt be the sinful and tiny savory chocolate lava cake with hidden oozing rich chocolate fudge.
Dear went to ask for another two packs of coffee grounds..
And dont you think we went a little too overboard on meals recently o,0
